The new album of Chako and Makoto Hattori better known as the duo from Jack Or Jive
leads us once more to explore the ancient Japanese culture.
“Kakugo” is an ancient concept found in Japanese Bushido. It tells us to think about
death and don’t do honourless act in everyday life.
This old-cultural Japanese concept has been transposed into the familiar and so
particular ambient approach of Jack Or Jive. Their music remains emblematic, wafting
between melancholia and pure new-age expression.
The mix of it all makes it that particular while dominated by the explicit and
so unique vocals of Chako. She remains the soul of the project! “Kakugo” leads us to
dreamy atmospheres made by electronics and neo-classical impressions.
It’s experimental in a way, but a form of ambient music in the end.
